Navy is looking to avoid being upset by a Football
Championship Subdivision school. The Midshipmen also boast a 10-game winning
streak at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and have not lost a season opener
in Annapolis since 2000.
Inside linebackers Daniel Gonzales and Micah Thomas will be
most responsible for containing Edmonds, who is a master of pressing the hole,
reading the pursuit and cutting accordingly. And that's not to mention the
airports, where the industry group Airlines for America is projecting a 4
percent increase in passengers, to 15.6 million, over last year's Labor Day
weekend.
Navy is a premier FBS program, a consistent winner that
ended last season in the Top 25. What better way to start the season than against
a team of this caliber. "That is exactly the way I presented it to the
players. This is a great opportunity for our program," first-year Fordham
head coach Andrew Breiner said. The Rams
like to spread the defense in order to give Edmonds running lanes. If Edmonds
gets going, it sets up play-action pass for Anderson.
Though the forecast is likely to put a damper on plans for
beach visits in this region, it could still be a tough weekend on the highways
— after all, many have travel plans that involve going away from the bad
weather charging up the coast. Fordham
has the offense to keep pace with Navy on the scoreboard. Quarterback Kevin
Anderson is an outstanding passer while Edmonds is a dynamic runner. If those
two play well the Rams could control possession.
