EVERETT – GOP presidential
nominee Donald Trump will speak to as many as 9,000 people inside the XFINITY
Arena Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., and Boeing employees are expected in the audience.
“I think we wanted to come out
here and very calmly express we don’t stand for that in Washington and
Washington doesn’t stand for Trump,” said Becca Bramwell, who came to the arena
with signs protesting Trump’s visit. The candidate can trace his
family back to the Poodle Dog restaurant in Seattle, a region where his
paternal grandfather and family patriarch learned about business, became U.S.
citizens and even won a local election. However, Trump supporters say that’s
too bad, since his visit should tell the people of Washington how important he
considers the state. Steinley says his guitar shop will be open for business but
they hear others have chosen to close, knowing there will be a traffic
nightmare. Starting Tuesday morning, no cars will be allowed to park along the
streets surrounding the arena and road closures are expected to start midday. Expect other protests too, including one that
will start at Clark Park and another being planned by Pride Festival
organizers. As the Puget Sound Business Journal noted in an earlier story, the
Seattle area is largely responsible for the Trump family's initial wealth.
"There's a lot of quiet,”
said Boeing Employee Dave Kelley. “Hush, hush going on. Maybe because a lot of
people don't want to speak up, or speak their minds. The realm of individuals I
work with, which is quite a few, they're pro-Trump."
